Seuth Chaleunphonh holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Illinois State University and is the current Dean of Student Life at IU Southeast bringing significant experience in student success and belongingness work. He leads RCOE executive projects and tasks across IU regional campuses related to equitable student success initiatives/inclusive excellence plans, GROUPS Scholars, strategic plan implementation, strategic communication, BIPOC faculty and staff affinity groups and mentoring in-person connections, NCORE IDEAL Conference steering leadership, holistic student support (coaching conversations training) to increase student success and belongingness, myriad persistence/prevention grant work, and enterprise software implementation. He engages various constituencies (regional communities of practice) and senior leadership across IU campuses on the Regional Cabinet team to identify issues, develop and implement innovative solutions to advance the regional campus mission. He communicates and collaborates effectively across various campuses, organizations, and communities of practice. He serves as one of three team leaders for the AASCU Student Success Equity Intensive cohort to reflect upon capacities; develop and monitor equitable solutions; utilize technical assistance resources; and reform policies for underrepresented and low-income students.
He has served IU as Dean of Student Life since 2008, leading the Campus Life team at IU Southeast and also serving as their chief student conduct officer. Campus Life promotes student engagement opportunities and leadership development and includes functional areas such as Student Involvement, Greek Life, Leadership Programs, Multicultural Student Center, Adult-Veteran-and-Military Connected Student Services, Family and Parent Programs, Volunteer Programs, Title IX Education, Violence Prevention, and 21st Century Scholars Support. He also served as a student advocate on the university diversity leadership team to increase diversity programming and to improve the campus climate. He helped the campus obtain the highest first-year retention rate (overall and students of color) in school history during 2022-2023 academic year and achieved the highest four-year, five-year, and eight-year graduation rates to date.
He has also earned Master degrees in Social Work and Educational Leadership. Before joining the IU Southeast Student Affairs division, he was Dean of Students and AVPSA at the University of St. Francis. He also has experience in counseling students in the college and K-12 settings.
